House Features

With our first visit on site, some of us, got very puzzled.

This piece of land, generously offered wide, panoramic views to the whole gulf, but, just like the majority of such properties, it was rather steep. It was also covered with big, flat, grey rocks, which covered almost 80% of the terrain, leaving very little space for outdoor activities.

How could we design a house, to make the best out of the views and at the same time, create a functional and aesthetically unique place, for its future residents?
Well, the land itself gave the answer.

After our caterpillars have removed most of the bushes, we found out that the terrain was divided in three elevations - three different levels. If we could place the house on at least two of those elevations, it would spread itself along the hill slope and blend into its environment. We generally don't like to build houses which stand out, like a single tree in the middle of the desert. We prefer to "fit" it into its surroundings. The rocks, on either sides of these elevations, create small, private areas, which give the property a unique character.

You may not have a big, flat area to run about, but there are, at least eight different GAZEBO areas, that you can walk into, through beautiful stone pathways, within the plot of land itself.
At the beginning, we tried to give the house, various shapes. None of them pleased us.

Finally, we decided, that the good old recipe of absolute symmetry, would work just fine.

You see, we wanted, everyone, who will visit the house in the future, to be able to enjoy the sea view from any room, on both floors. None of us wanted to compromise with anything less than that. We like to think, that we have succeeded.

Coming from the road, you walk into the house's upper level, which comprises the lounge area, with the corner fireplace, the dinning area, the kitchen, the master bedroom and the main bath. A staircase, is placed there, in a very clever way, forming an interior balcony, in front of the dinning table. It leads to the house's lower level, where you will find two spacious bedrooms, one bathroom and a utility room. We chose two different tints of beige color for the walls on the upper level and natural grey-brown stone with irregular shape and very little grouting for the lower level.

The white balustrades, the wooden pergola and the cement frames around the doors and windows, serve as the final brush strokes on a finished painting.

Here are some features, we integrated into the house, to make it more interesting

The center of the upper floor is the dinning area. The roof here, is higher than in the other 2 areas (lounge and kitchen) on either sides. We decided to finish it with a wooden ceiling, to give the house a "touch" of coziness.

The two, very big windows, dominate the wall to the north, where the sea views are.

The kitchen cupboards are being prepared to fit the specific area of the house. The model is called "Maja - MU " by ALTA linea.
