Vietnam is well-known throughout the world because of its scenic beauty and wonderful weather. It had been an ideal place for centuries because of which it remained the colony of various nations during the course of time. It has something to offer for everyone from International Heritage sights to breathtaking natural scenes, from long sandy beaches to gigantic mountains.

The Vietnamese government is paying full attention to the development of tourism in the country. During the last couple of years radical changes has been made to attract tourists which includes advertisement on massive scale and introduction of various reforms. Four years ago 38.2 percent of the GDP was generated through the tourism and services industry. An average of 2 million tourists visited the country, during those years. From 1999-2004, tourism was augmented by 63 percent.
 
For the year 2008, the Vietnamese government kept a target of attracting 5 million tourists in the country. According to different stats the tourism rose by 15% percent as compared to the year 2007. In the month of January (2008) alone 861,000 tourists visited the country. The significant influx of the tourists was from China, Japan, Taiwan, US and Australia.
