Singapore » Rental Market If you don't need to have an entire flat, you can rent a room from an HDB (The Housing and Development Board) flat owner with one to spare.
Flat owners who accept tenants are required by law to continue living in the flat. This is because HDB flats are generally reserved for owners and their permitted occupiers. If you are renting a whole flat, you must rent it from an owner who has received approval to do so from the HDB. The owners are only allowed to sublet their whole flats under special circumstances, like when they have to go overseas. Estimated rentals for an entire HDB flat range from S$880 for a three-room flat, to about S$1,400 and upwards for a five-room flat.
The estimated rentals for a room can vary from S$350 to S$550. The rentals depend on the size, condition and location of the flat, such as its proximity to the MRT station. Other determining factors include amenities and whether the flat is furnished, unfurnished or partially furnished.
