Italy » Weather
Although Italy is not a huge country but the weather throughout the year keeps changing. The climate of Italy varies depending on the altitudes and the distance from the sea. On the whole Italy’s weather is considered pleasant and the reason for this are the warm waters of the Mediterranean Sea. Weather of Italy is quite varied and extremely unpredictable. The climate for most of the central Italy can be termed as Mediterranean. The long coastlines and mountain ranges are responsible for the quick changes of temperature.
Weather can be extremely different in the south and the north. While in the south there may be dry summers, the north may have snow clad mountains. The north of Italy receives heavy snowfalls during the winter season particularly in the mountain regions. The cold conditions around the Alps have been the factor behind the skiing industry developing there. As rainfall is higher in the mountains of the north it is also the wettest area of Italy. Spring and autumn is the time when the weather in Italy is the best. From November to March the weather remains quite unpredictable and cold. The wettest months in Italy are from October to December. The hottest months of Italy are July and August with mild, sunny springs and autumns. The temperatures in these months can reach 30°C. Hot winds keep the humidity down while the cooler winds from north bring along storms and rain. The temperature along the coast remains pleasant because of the sea breezes that keep the hottest days cool and the winters mild. The south of Italy is rugged, hot and dry.
