Germany is in Central Europe, adjoining the North Sea and the Baltic Sea between the Netherlands and Poland, and to the south of Denmark. Because of its central location, Germany shares borders with more European countries than any other country on the continent.

Czech Republic in the east, Austria and Switzerland in the south, France and Luxembourg in the south-west and Belgium and the Netherlands in the north-west are also its neighbours. Germany has the second largest population in Europe (after European Russia) and is seventh largest in area.

Germany has a coastline of 2,389 km. Germany's major rivers are the Danube, the Elbe, the Oder, the Weser, and the Rhine. Germany is about the size of Montana (state in the United States of America).
