Taxes

There are two types of taxes found in France. The two types of taxes are based on the theoretical values based on the local land registry. The value of taxes changes from region to region. These taxes are imposed by regional and local governments. Major divisions of the France property tax are given bellow. 

Capital Gains Tax

The France capital gains tax is collectable by second or holiday home possessors when property is traded. A benefit earned on the clearance of real property may have the benefit of payment before being taxed at 26%; this figure contains social charges (CSG and CRDS) at 10%.

Income Tax

The France income tax charges are revalued in 2008. French residents who receive rental income or investment income are also liable to pay social charges at a flat rate of 10%. The person who has foreign nationality and is also considered as the French resident for tax proposes if their home or business is here in the France. The France income tax rates vary from 7.05 percent to a maximum rate of 49.58 percent.

Inheritance / Gift Tax

The information for the inheritance Tax France is as follows. All estates benefit from a general "tax free" allowance of €50,000 which is divided between the beneficiaries in proportion to their rights of succession. In addition the beneficiaries will receive the following:

  • An allowance of €76,000 for the surviving spouse; and
  • An allowance of €50,000 for the parents and children of the deceased

The balance in excess of the allowance is taxed at progressive rates from 5% up to a maximum of 40%. For more remote family members and others, smaller allowances are given and higher rates of tax will apply. Generally the tax ranges from 35% to a maximum of 60%.
