The Caribbean consists of over 7,000 islands, real estate buyers have a vast amount of property to choose from and also many different Caribbean island groups to examine. The islands are all of various different sizes and together they form what Christopher Columbus termed the West Indies. Today they are also collectively known as The Caribbean and they stretch from Mexico to Venezuela.

Caribbean islands and owning a slice of tropical paradise is no longer the enclave of the super rich and royalty. The various governments of the region are actively encouraging overseas property investment and over the last few years they have been making a conscious effort to ensure the process is easier and more affordable.

The Dominican Republic (D.R) currently has the best buyers market in the Caribbean. The new government has made some positive changes. The infrastructure problems are receiving top priority. Land ownership restrictions have been eliminated. Now anyone can own property virtually anywhere in the "D.R." and there are no real estate taxes. For the first time in twenty years the government has allocated millions to promote this beautiful country. International Living has started a series of articles entitled, "Affordable Caribbean" and is promoting tours there. The economy is booming. 

Ipbre forecasts for the West Caribbean isalnds is positive. West Caribbean islands are doing good business in terms of property market and  from the look of things it is expected to do even better. West Caribbean island of Roatan reported a record year for real estate, it is set to do better because of the increasing number of tourists. New  Residential complexes is the hot property trend. The improved infrastructure with growing tourists, and diversification of property are all facts working for the Caribbean islands. The future prospects for property market looks good. Capital appreciation averages a healthy 10% per annum. islands like St.Lucia and Dominican Republic have specially bright prospects as it is attracting alot  of foreign investment.
