Harrow is also the name of a locality within the borough and is home to the famous public school of the same name. The school was founded in 1572 under the Royal Charter granted by Elizabeth I to John Lyon, a local yeoman. Today Harrow School has around 800 pupils, all of whom are full-time boarders. The borough of Harrow has a versatile business community with a broad range of industries. Foremost employers include Kodak, Ladbrokes and First National Bank. In the present day harrow has it all. It is a cosmopolitan suburb in a big city, which has appealed people from all over UK & the world making it culturally diverse. 41.2% of its population is from an ethnic community, the biggest group being from the Gujarati community. It has had a growing number of people descending from Somalia, Eastern Europe and Ireland. A large number of the Jewish community lives in Hatch End and Stanmore.
