Switzerland » Entertainment in Geneva
Geneva’s nightlife is amazing. There are endless venues catering to visiting businesspeople and wealthy locals formal dinner-dance, yawn worthy cabaret. Geneva is not exactly heart of the European music industry, and even Suisse-Romande bands prefer Lausanne, but there are a few venues around town for live music. Friday and Saturday nights are when the bars and clubs lining Rue Vautier in Carouge come into their own. It's worth taking at least a day to explore the green places of Geneva, of which there are quite a few, not the least because some of the more interesting parts of town are between those green places. There are a number of promenades for which there are maps available at the tourist office on the Ile de la Machine. Geneva is a town of Arts and Culture. Its numerous museums and libraries, the Opera, the Orchestra of the Suisse romande have largely contributed, among others, to its development. Theatre is very popular in Geneva and there is always ample of choice. At any one time, Geneva plays host to several theatrical productions, some of which are classics while others are more avant guard productions put on by local troops in Geneva. The language of theatrical productions varies in Geneva, with many productions being put on in French, often in the local dialect of French spoken in Geneva. The event not to be missed every year in June is the Music Festival, during which the whole city turns into a huge musical stage with hundreds of concerts of all types performed in the streets for three days.
