Honduras » Dining in Tegucigalpa

Tegucigalpa Tegucigalpa has a large quantity of fine fast food restaurants. Most of these are located either in the downtown district, the zona viva district also known as the Boulevard Morazan area, and the Colonia Palmira area. Another very worthwhile exception is the road to El Hatillo, which offers some of the best views of Tegucigalpa in a very pleasant mountain pine environment.

Tegucigalpa also known as Tegus has a healthy variety of American food restaurants: McDonald's, Burger King, Wendy's, Subway, etc. All follow "home office" food preparation procedures and travelers can eat at them without fear of getting sick.

Some of the finest places in Tegucigalpa to dine are given below:

El Cumbre

The nicest restaurant in town ($20 per person (total) or so) is "El Cumbre" on top of the "mountain" of "El Hatillio." The food is amazing and the spectacular view of the city.

Gino’s Pasta Café

It is Located within walking distance of the Honduras Maya and the Plaza San Martin district hotels, this restaurant offers outstanding Italian food. Menu includes salads, pastas, appetizers, soups, light sandwiches and pizzas.

La Salsa

This tremendously clean restaurant can offer indoor dining in beautifully decorated surroundings or terrace dining with fabulous views of the city and the famous monument, Christ of the Picacho. If you want to experience this outstanding standard of food, wide variety of Honduran dishes and vast collection of mouth watering desserts you must do it at lunch time as it is closed in the evenings. The civilized but friendly atmosphere makes it a must during your stay in Tegucigalpa.

Tegucigalpa Dining

El Patio

This is the best place to go to for a taste of genuine Honduran food. While not the best restaurant in Tegucigalpa, El Patio offers a variety of Honduran typical food for a very reasonable price. Dishes such as anafre (cheese and bean dip melted in a clay pot and served with tortilla chips), pinchos (a Honduran shish kabob) and of course plenty of beans and rice. There are two locations on Boulevard Morazan to choose from.

Taco Loco

A casual restaurant bar with Mexican food. This is a popular get together place for the young local crowd.

Casa Maria

A very pleasant tropical & majestic atmosphere, unique paintings and international cuisine with many “secret” recipes that have been in the family for years, such as the “Maria Shrimps” and apple crepes have made this restaurant one of the favorites of the local society.

Tegucigalpa City Dining

Ni Fu Ni Fa

A new Argentinean style restaurant offering outstanding steaks of great imported cuts. Also offer an extensive salad bar. Open daily at the Boulevard Morazan. Good service. Without doubt one of the new “in” restaurants in Tegus.

Duncan Mayan

American style cafeteria located in the heart of Tegucigalpa. It offers wide-ranging menu with good prices. Open daily for breakfast, lunch and dinner. They also have a full international bar.

Usami

The food at this Japanese restaurant is so good that it's not uncommon to see a gathering of the Japanese, including the Japanese Ambassador to Honduras. It is owned by a Japanese man and his Honduran wife, Usami strives for genuineness in its dishes. You can order "commonly" known Japanese dishes such as gyoza, tempura and chicken teriyaki, but why not order some of the more real dishes like katsudon donburi (breaded pork cutlet over rice and egg) or agedashi dofu (deep fried tofu in a delicious soy sauce broth).
