Greece » Introduction of Athens
Greek culture is attributed with a vast number of contributions to philosophy, astronomy, science, and the arts. Greek culture evolved over thousands of years, with its beginnings in the Mycenean and Minoan Civilizations, continuing into Classical Greece, the birth of the Hellenistic era and through the influence of the Roman Empire and its Greek Eastern successor the Byzantine Empire. When you are in Athens you will have the impression that the city never sleeps. Athens gives new meaning to the word nightlife. Whether you start with dinner and then hit the clubs, or begin with a couple of drinks and then make your way to one of the many bouzoukia (clubs specializing in Greek music played on bouzoukis), the city is sure to keep you entertained until the early hours. Clubs offering live music are located primarily on Syngrou and Poseidonos Avenues and are the best places to party. The National Garden is a sprawling, peaceful stretch of green amidst the noise and traffic of central Athens. You'll find peacocks, a playground and a small zoo.
