Germany » Entertainment in Berlin
In Berlin, nightlife runs around the clock, and there's plenty to do at any time. Berlin has long been known for its theatre. There's nowhere in the world that can compete with Berlin when it comes to the sheer diversity of its nightlife. Even if you don't understand German, you may enjoy a production of a well-known play or musical. Berlin is also a great place for music lovers, even though David Bowie (British singer songwriter and composer) and Iggy Pop are long gone. Top addresses include Kreuzberg's Junction Bar for jazz. Big concerts take place at the Arena and Columbiahalle. Classical fans have to make the painful choice between three opera houses or simply head straight to the Philharmonie to listen to the world-famous Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra.
Berlin boasts more than 100 cinemas from extreme modern multi-screen complexes to customary film theatres such as the UFA Palast and the Marmorhaus, which are as old as black-and-white film. A particularly atmospheric establishment is the Soviet-style International on Karl-Marx-Allee. Berlin isn't famous for its natural rock formations, so if you imagine a little scrambling action then you'd best find a climbing hall. Magic Mountain is the biggest in the city, and in fact the whole of Europe, so that even experts amongst you are likely to find that a challenge is there. After you've worked up a perspire mastering the 50ft walls you can return to 'base-camp' where you will find fitness and sauna facilities, steam bath, spa area, internet café and beer garden as well as medical aid.
