Tallinn

Bars and Pubs

Tallinn’s bars and pubs are typically open until at least midnight on weeknights, a couple hours later on Friday and Saturday nights. The more popular Old Town pubs will stay open until the last client leaves.

Karja Kelder

Part of the Vana Villem chain of earthy pubs, this Old Town cellar bar is decorated in the traditional style that Estonians tend to love. Lots of iron and wood is used in the décor. Beer here is a bit cheaper than in other Old Town bars, and there´s more variety available, even with regards to imported brands. Just as much a place to drink however, Karja Kelder is a good spot to enjoy a reasonably priced, hearty meal.

Seiklusjutte Maalt Ja MereltSince

It's a little way from the centre, not too many tourists find their way to this unusual pub that resembles a huge country lodge. Those who make the trip however will find something unique. The English name, Traveller's Pub and Club, doesn't do much to explain that the pub is actually named after a collection of adventure stories found in practically every Estonian household. Menus here are fashioned like storybooks, and the maps and globes on the walls are here to help explorers find their way.

Nightclubs

Nightclubs in Tallinn open their doors at 10 or 11 pm, but they only really get going sometime after midnight. Most people will linger in nearby bars until then. On Fridays and Saturdays clubs stay open until 4 or 6 AM. Anyone visiting on a Sunday, Monday or Tuesday should keep in mind that most clubs don't bother operating on those traditionally slow days.

Live Music

Many of the bars and pubs will feature local bands on Friday and Saturday evenings, but some of them are particularly geared towards live performances. It should also be mentioned that Café Amigo is known for pulling in Estonia’s big-name musical acts.

Guitar Safari

Pay just a few kroon at the door to be admitted to this raw, edgy cellar bar filled with rock memorabilia and raucous crowds. The style of the bands varies somewhat, but it's usually within the confines of country and rock. The poster at the door will tell you who's on tonight, and a careful listen at the entrance is usually enough to sample the band's particular sound and judge whether it's what you want to drop in.
