Cyprus (Greek) » Entertainment in Nicosia Music
The music of Cyprus includes a variety of classical, folk and popular genres. Recent trends have seen the rise of Ayia Napa, a resort, as a home for UK garage music, similar in its evolution to that of the island Ibiza. Cyprus changed hands numerous times prior to the Medieval era, and was an important outpost of Christianity and European civilization during the Crusades. Festivals Popular yearly festivals and cultural events in Cyprus are the Lemesos Carnival parades (February), the Ancient Greek Drama festival (August) and wine festivals (September/October). Horse racing in Cyprus is organised by the Nicosia Race Club every Wednesday and Saturday (Sunday during winter) at the horse racing track in Lefkosia (Nicosia). Movies are shown in modern cinemas in their innovative language with Greek subtitles. Nightlife Nightlife on the island caters to every mood and every age. There are trendy discos and sophisticated nightclubs. There's ample opportunity to dine and dance romantically under the stars; and there’s plenty of local atmosphere and lively fun when the spirited Greek dancing gets going. There's even the chance of seeing a Shakespearean play or a Greek drama performed in an ancient theatre by the light of a Cyprus full moon.
