If you are coming from the United Kingdom brace yourself for a flight of more or less 8 to 10 hours from London to Asia, than a long day in transit, as flights to Australia arrive in Asia in early morning and depart around midnight and finally the 8 to 9 hours flight to Sydney. Sydney international airport is 8 km (5 miles) from the city centre. Most flights to Sydney from the northern hemisphere involve a stopover in Singapore, Kuala Lumpur or Bangkok, although the arrival of Emirates on the scene means that you can also stopover in Dubai. Direct flights from San Francisco and Los Angeles are also available.
