Football is a passion for Argentines. Buenos Aires has the highest concentration of football teams of any city in the world, with many of its teams playing in the major league.
In the barrio of Recoleta are located a number of tourist sites including the Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes, the Biblioteca Nacional, the Centro Cultural Recoleta, the Faculty of Law of the Universidad de Buenos Aires, the Basilica Nuestra Senora de Pilar, the Palais de Glace, the Bar La Biela and the Cementerio de la Recoleta, where the remains of Eva Duarte de Peron can be found. The Museo de Arte Latinoamericano de Buenos Aires is located in the barrio of Palermo, and is one of the most important in the country. In this neighbourhood can also be found the Bosques de Palermo, the Planetary and Buenos Aires Zoo.
Another important tourist site is Avenida Corrientes. In this avenue, theaters like Teatro San MartÃn, Paseo La Plaza and the stadium Luna Park can be found. At the intersection of this avenue with Avenida 9 de julio, the Obelisco, the emblem of the City of Buenos Aires, is located. Mercado de Abasto, which is currently a shopping mall, is also on this avenue. San Telmo is a well known Buenos Aires area. This is a traditional place in the South of Buenos Aires. It has an antique image, houses since colonial epoque and cobblestones streets. One can see big churches, museums, antique stores and "Antique Fairs" ('Feria de Antiguedades') in Dorrego Square. Dorrego Square ('Plaza Dorrego') is a historic place in San Telmo. Around it, one can see actors on the streets, tango dancers and many tourists. The Penitentiary Museum ('Museo Penitenciario') is a Jesuit building that was a prison for more than 150 years. The Church of San Pedro Telmo is a temple with 300 years that represent the Maritims Holy conserving antique images on the windows and walls. Defense Passage was an older residence that now is a marketplace with coffees and antiques stores. People that like tango may enjoy a visit to 'El Viejo Almacen'. It was built by the famous tango singer Edmundo Rivero. |
